Kansas
History came to life for students
in Mrs. Julie Friesen’s Social Studies class.
Students came dressed
in overalls and gingham, with their lunches in pails or knapsacks.
The girls wore braids and ribbons in their hair.
They took a trip to the Center Hill School where they sat at desks
that were used in the early 1900’s, and learned what it was
like to attend a one-room school.
Some
things are still the same - recess was the highlight of the day,
the boys pulled the girls' pigtails, friends shared secrets, there
were lessons to be learned.
Another
activity that helped the students connect with Kansas history was the
living museum.
Each student
researched the life of a famous Kansan and wrote a biographical
sketch about that person.
The students presented the information they learned by dressing
as "their" Kansan and reciting some of the events of that
person's life to visitors of the museum.
